Adding an “X” suffix on Types 3X, 4X, 3RX, and 3SX signals additional corrosion resistance. A nema 4X enclosure for instance, can be made out of 304 or 316 stainless steel or fiberglass-reinforced polyester – materials that will pass the salt spray test called for in the standard.
